What is STEER?
STEER is the South Texas Energy & Economic Roundtable, a place where people and ideas come together to strengthen our communities through the development of oil and natural gas.
Who does STEER represent?
Our diverse membership includes some of the largest operators in the Eagle Ford Shale region including: Anadarko, Baytex, BHP Billiton, Chesapeake Energy Corporation, ConocoPhillips, Cheyenne Petroleum, Devon, Encana, EnerVest, EOG Resources, EP Energy, Marathon Oil, Murphy Oil, Noble Energy, Pioneer Natural Resources, Sanchez Energy Corporation, SM Energy, Statoil and XTO.
The founding members of STEER, which includes many of the board members, saw a need in South Texas to maintain a cohesive and collaborative stakeholder relations effort throughout the Eagle Ford Shale and created STEER to lead that initiative.
As an organization, STEER aims to ensure the development of the Eagle Ford’s energy resources is accomplished in a manner that is mutually beneficial to the industry and communities throughout South Texas.
Welcome to the South Texas Energy & Economic Roundtable’s website! I’m Chris Ashcraft, Interim President of STEER. It’s our mission to serve as the bridge connecting the oil and natural gas industry to South Texas communities. STEER will work to ensure that all stakeholders throughout the Eagle Ford Shale region are able to effectively maximize opportunities in a responsible and collaborative way.
As the conduit to help foster communication, research, education and positive economic development for both the oil and natural gas industry and South Texas communities, STEER works closely with industry representatives, local officials, regional stakeholders, academia, media and community members.
“At STEER, we understand that growth and prosperity in South Texas depends on active dialogue, collaboration and education among the various stakeholders. The oil and natural gas industry is one of the region’s most fundamental economic drivers, and the Eagle Ford Shale presents an unprecedented economic growth opportunity for South Texas. In 2016, activity from the development of the Eagle Ford Shale resulted in a $48 billion total economic output and the creation of more than 90,000 jobs within the 21 surrounding counties in South Texas.”
